Cosmetics in Australia are unregulated in respect of any product standards; however the labelling of cosmetics is regulated and requires ingredient listing.
Claims are subject to the Trade Practices Act and/or TGA advertising guidelines.Many possible claims would render the product a Therapeutic and therefore require the product to be registered with full technical portfolio of data and efficacy information as per any OTC medicine.The CTFAA Code of Good Manufacturing Practice prescribes a number of microbiological standards for cosmetics, ingredients and process water.
