Mycotoxins

Mycotoxins, naturally occurring chemical substances produced by moulds (fungi), may contaminate agricultural commodities (nuts, grains and cereals, spices, and dried fruit). Foods contaminated with mycotoxins can sometimes cause acute illness and are associated with increased cancer risks from long-term exposure.

Led by the European Union and United States, many countries have adopted regulations to limit consumer exposure to mycotoxins.
